Introduction to Tungsten Carbide Tipped ReamersⅠ

Tungsten carbide tipped reamers are basically the same in design as high-speed-steel reamers, with the exception that the cutting blades have carbide tips. They may be used on a wide range of materials, including all the common industrial metals and the machinable plastics. The extreme hardness of cemented carbides enables them to withstand wear and abrasion; however, these materials are relatively brittle, and the reamer body, the flutes or blades, and the carbide tips themselves must definitely be shaped and dimensioned to resist deflection. Nearly all carbide-tipped reamers are intended for machine reaming.The terminology and definitions for reamers adopted and published by the ANSI are generally applicable to carbide-tipped reamers.
 
Mechanism and Parameters
Certain angles and clearances are embodied in the cutting elements of carbide-tipped reamers to obtain cutting action in the proper places, prevent friction, and clear the chips. Practically all the cutting is done on the chamfer, which is in the form of a truncated cone on the entering end of the reamer. This chamfer is shaped to start the reamer properly in the hole.
 
A clearance on the chamfer of 6 to 8 degrees on the carbide tip and a secondary clearance of 10 to 15 degrees on the steel body have proved to be satisfactory for most work piece materials. Under good work conditions and proper alignment of the reamer and the work, a back taper of 0.003 in/in of flute length is adequate. Back taper should be increased to prevent binding of only slightly dull tools when reaming very abrasive materials. In general, circular land widths may range from 0.007 inches on ¼ inch-diameter to 0.020 inches on 1 ½ inch-diameter reamers. Primary relief angles on the carbide tip range from 15 degrees on a ¼ inch-diameter to 7 degrees on a 1 ½ inch-diameter reamers 
Solid carbide reamers are available in diameters from 1/16 to 3/8 inches, and larger on special order. Since sintered carbide is a rigid material, a solid carbide reamer will finish a hole within close tolerances. If a hole is drilled slightly out of round or out of parallel, a solid carbide reamer will usually not follow the irregularities but will finish a true hole around its own axis. Rough and finish-reaming operations often can be combined into one through the use of solid carbide reamers.

4. YG8 Tungsten Carbide Ball
YG8 tungsten carbide ball is composed of 92% WC and 8% Co. Although it has lower hardness, wear resistance and lower cutting speed, it has better toughness and impact resistance, especially suitable for the early processing of cast iron, alloy, non-ferrous and non-metallic materials.

5. YG13 Tungsten Carbide Ball
YG13 tungsten carbide ball is composed of 87% WC and 13% Co, which has better toughness and ductility and is suitable for stamping parts manufacturing required good wear resistance and impact proofing.

6. YN6 Tungsten Carbide Ball
Based on WC and Co, YN6 tungsten carbide ball adds in a amount of Ni, which has excellent properties, such as good wear resistance and anti- corrosion. It is suitable for the seals of oil, sweage, acid, alkali, corrosive machine and some wear-resisting parts.

1. YG6 Tungsten Carbide Ball
YG6 tungsten carbide ball is also called as YG6 tungsten ball, which is composed of 94% WC and 6% Co. It has high hardness and good anti-corrosion, and it is hundreds times harder than the common steel ball so that it can take place of steel ball for widely using in various hardware industries, such as bearing, die casting, valves, punching parts, measurement, grinding and so on.

2. YG6A Tungsten Carbide Ball
YG6A tungsten carbide ball is different from YG6 tungsten carbide ball, which added little TaC carbide so that it has better hardness and is suitable for processing at high temperature, non-ferrous metal, hardened steel, alloy steel and cast iron.

3. YG6x Tungsten Carbide Ball
YG6x tungsten carbide ball belongs to tungsten carbide with fine grain. Due to the fine grains, it has better hardness and wear resistance than coarse grain YG6 tungsten carbide ball, and it not only suitable for the processing of cast steel and thermal alloy steel, but also suitable for the finishing of normal cast iron.

Developing Your Tungsten Darts Throw

There are many factors evolved in how you throw a tungsten dart. Every one has a different throw. Every one has a different throw. Every one has a different throw. But how to developing your tungsten darts throw?

Did you get that? Some people will try and tell you that you are doing something wrong unless they are a professional listen with half an ear, try what they are saying if it makes sense to you but do what feels comfortable to you even if it contradicts what they told you.

The only truly important factor about your throw is consistency. If you throw your tungsten darts with exactly the same movements every time you will be more accurate. If you miss just slightly off from where you wanted, you should not move, simply throw the next tungsten dart exactly as you threw the last with your aimed changed slightly and you should do fine.

Another important factor is having a smooth throw. Jerking your arm from your elbow or shoulder is a bad practice. Try to throw with a nice, smooth even motion and remember to follow through.
I am not going to preach anything else about how you should throw, you should make your own choices. How you grip the tungsten dart, stand at the line, aim your tungsten dart, move your arm, use your wrist, etc. will all affect your throw, but they are all very personal.

Just remember the one key: consistency.

An Introduction to Spade DrillⅡ

Working mechanism
When a spade drill works, the metal separation from the work is achieved in similar manner by both twist drills and spade drills. The two cutting lips separate the metal by a shearing action that is identical to that of chip formation by a single point cutting tool. A most important feature of the cutting edge is the chip splitter, or chip breaker grooves. Instead of forming a single wide chip these grooves cause several chips to be readily disposed.

The spade drills have also the following operational and economical characters which help promote the use of spade drills.

Operational Characters
1) Greater inherent rigidity;
2) Heavier feed rates more than compensate for 10 % to 15 % reduction in RPM hence;
3) Faster production;
4) More chip clearance also adds to production speed.
 
Economical Characters
1) Two piece construction i.e.shank & blade affords many sizes in only one shank;
2) Blades can be replaced or resharpened;
3) Same blades can be used on short, long & special shanks;
4) Depth to diameter ratio in Spade drilling has been achieved upto  20 : 1;
5) With special blades, core drilling, counter boring and bottoming to flat or contoured shape can be achieved;
6) The shanks can vary from straight to tapered, long to Extra long and with Miling Machine application i.e. ISO - 40 etc.

For some instances, Y-10 G10+5 JB/T 9145-1999. It means that the material is tungsten carbide, the nominal diameter is 10mm, the tolerance class is 10, the deviation of the tungsten carbide ball batch diameter is +5μm and it is in accordance with the standard of JB/T 9145-1999.

 Another Y24 G40 b JB/T 9145-2010, which means that the material is tungsten carbide, the nominal diameter is 24mm, the tolerance class is 40, it does not supplied by the variation of the batch diameter and it is in accordance with the standard of JB/T 9145-2010. In addition, the method of symbol is supposed to be marked on the order form, certification, packing of tungsten carbide ball and other needs symbol. It should be recorded in order, and there is a space between each term.

Tungsten Carbide Ball Parameters

The first digit is Y, which is the first letter of tungsten carbide in Chinese pronunciation. The second digit refers to the nominal diameter of tungsten carbide ball (mm), usually ignored. The third digit is the tolerance class code of tungsten carbide ball, usually adds letter G in front of tungsten carbide ball tolerance class to consist of tolerance level code, such as G3, G5, G10, G16, G20, G100 and so on. The next digit is the deviation of the batch diameter or b mark (means it does not supplied by the variation of the batch diameter), the average deviation of the diameter uses plus or minus and number to present (μm), and it is also usually ignored. At last, it is the standard number of tungsten carbide ball and the complementary technical conditions.

Spade drills are a known device which in many ways surpasses twist drills in range 24 mm onwards. Spade drills have been developed from U-shaped drills and are already applied in a wide range（such as radial drilling tool, vertical/horizontal drilling machine, etc.）with relatively low requirement on equipments.

Structure of spade drill
There are two principal parts to a spade drill, namely the blade and the holder. The holder has a slot into which the blade fits, a wide slot at the back of the blade engages with a tongue in the holder slot to accurately locate the blade. A retaining screw holds the two parts together.
 
Types of spade drill
The blade is usually high speed steel blade or cemented carbide tipped blade.The diameter of carbide blades range from 9mm to 32mm, while HSS blades from 9mm to 68mm(usually grade M42 with 8% Cobalt). Some non-standardized blades can be even larger.

Standard stub, short, long and extra long holders are available, according to the ratio of holder length to blade diameter we have types of 3D, 5D, 7D, 9D or onward, and for very deep holes, special holders having wear strips to support and guide the drill are often used. Spade drills can be given with holders having coolant holes, either straight holes or helix ones, to direct cutting fluid, under pressure, to the cutting edge.

Tungsten Applications - Bullets

In 1999 the US Army began manufacturing "green" bullets. Tungsten is  thought to be one of the most sought-after materials for the bullets, and which  used primarily for shooting practice during peace time - are as deadly to humans as their predecessors but less deadly to the Earth.

The lead bullets the Army uses in traditional have been bioaccumulating at shooting ranges, forcing several to close. But now these bullets will be replaced with environmentally friendly bullets which made by tungsten. Not only is tungsten more environmentally "benign" than lead, but ozone depleting chemicals and volatile organic compounds have been eliminated from the bullet manufacturing process - resulting in pollution prevention and money savings. Although tungsten is more expensive than lead, But the cleanup of the manufacturing process actually will result in savings of $0.01 to $0.05 per round, or $5 million to $20 million per year，as the  army reported.

Recently years millions green bullets be produced. Priority distribution of the bullets will be given to closed shooting ranges and to a new National Guard shooting range near Gnome, Alaska, that has not been contaminated by lead bullets.

4.Detection rule 
4.1 Inspection and acceptance 
4.1.1 Product is checked by supplier to ensure the product is up to the standard, the product quality certificate is required. 
4.1.2 After received the product, demander check the product according to the national standard. If the test result is not match to the stipulation, demander should inform the supplier within 15 days from the date of receive. If arbitration is involved, the sampling is provided by demander and arbitration is executed by both parties. 
4.2 Order grouping Product should be examined in group, the weight is negotiated by both parties. 
4.3 Inspection item Inspection items are listed as below:

4.4 Testing result 
4.4.1 If one of the chemical component, water insoluble matter, PH value is unqualified, then check this item repeated, if the repeated trials is still unqualified, then the product is below the standard. 
4.4.2 If the appearance quality is below the standard, then the barrel is unqualified.

5.Sign, packing, transportation, storage and quality certificate. 
5.1 Sign 
There should be signs on the package include suppliers' name, product name, grade, batch number, net weight, also letters like 'keep away from moisture', 'upward', etc. 
5.2 Packing 
Product is packed by barrel with polyethylene plastic bag inside, if there is special requirement for packing and the weight for per package, it should be negotiated by both demander and supplier. 
5.3 Transportation and storage. During the transportation process, the product should be away from moisture, and avoid violent collision. Product should be installed under dry, ventilated, no acid-based atmosphere. From the date of receiving, the spray product should not be installed over six months, the crystallization product should not be installed over one month. 
5.4 Quality certificate 
Quality certificate should be included in every batch of product. It should includes: 
1) Supplier name, address, postcode; 
2) Product name, grade; 
3) Batch number; 
4) Weight (net weight and gross weight); 
5) Standard number GB/T 26033-2010; 
6) Test result and seal of quality inspection department; 
7) Inspector ID; 
8) Inspecting date.

6.Contract (or order) content. 
Contract (or order) content includes: 
1) Product name; 
2) Grade; 
3) Weight; 
4) Standard number GB/T 26033-2010.
