Analysis of Latest Molybdenum Market from Chinatungsten Online

On Monday, China’s molybdenum market as a whole showed a pattern of volatile weakness. Driven by a new round of steel mill tender price cuts, quotations for products across the industrial chain generally declined slightly.

Ferromolybdenum, as an important market product, saw its transaction center of gravity drop noticeably, which in turn forced down the prices of molybdenum concentrate and molybdenum oxide; sodium molybdate, ammonium tetramolybdate, and ammonium heptamolybdate followed raw material prices downward. Today, the price of molybdenum concentrate decreased by approximately RMB 30/mtu, the price of ferromolybdenum decreased by approximately RMB 3,000/ton, and the price of ammonium heptamolybdate decreased by approximately RMB 2,000/ton.

Data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that in mid-October, the social inventory of steel products in five major categories across 21 cities was 8.96 million tons, decreased by 4.6% month-on-month, increased by 24.3% from the beginning of the year, and decreased by 4.3% compared with the same period last year.

By region, the social inventory of steel products in most of the seven major regions decreased month-on-month, among which North China was the region with the largest decrease, Northwest China was the region with the largest decline, South China saw a slight month-on-month inventory increase, Northeast China remained flat month-on-month, and other regions all saw month-on-month inventory declines.
