Tungsten Ore Flotation Organic Inhibitor - Pyrogallic Acid

Tungsten ore organic inhibitor is widely applied due to its wide resource, diverse kinds, molecular structure design can be adjusted according to practical mineral system. Organic inhibitor is divided into macromolecule inhibitor and micromolecule inhibitor. Pyrogallic acid is a typical one.

Pyrogallic acid is also names 1-, 2-, 3- trihydroxy benzene, it is white crystalline powder under room temperature, it is bitter, turns into dark grey when exposed in the air. When heated slowly it can sublime and easily soluble in water, also is toxic.

Chemical formula of pyrogallic acid is C6H6O3 it is mainly used as chemical reagent and raw material medium for chemical and medicine. During tungsten ore flotation, pyrogallic acid is used to inhibit sulfide mineral. It is found that pyrogallic acid also has inhibiting function for galena, pyrite, chalcopyrite and sphalerite.

We should be clarified that pyrogallic acid is different from gallic acid. There difference is number of hydrophilic group. Pyrogallic acid has low index of hydrophilic and hydrophobic, there are only two OH hydrophilic group. So it doesn’t depend on hydrophilic group to perform inhibiting property. Research shows that acidity and alkali property are facts that affect pyrogallic acid inhibiting function. Since pyrogallic acid is soft alkali, can react with soft acid sulfide minerals and lower its edge energy level, so as to enlarge hydrophilic property of mineral surface to realize inhibiting.
