Tungsten Ore Flotation Inhibitor – Pyrophosphate

Inhibitor is also called retarder. It can block or reduce the rate of chemical reaction of the material, which is the same with the negative catalyst. Tungsten ore flotation inhibitor is divided into organic inhibitor and inorganic inhibitor.

Sodium silicate, metal ion combining sodium silicate, ammonium salt combining sodium silicate, sodium fluorosilicate, pyrophosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate and phosphorous acid are common seen inorganic inhibitor. They all have their advantages. Pyrophosphate is a typical one.

Phosphate can be classified as orthophosphate, pyrophosphate and metaphosphate, pyrophosphate and metaphosphate can be used as flotation agent, sodium hexametaphosphate after deliquescence gradually becomes pyrophosphate. Pyrophosphate is a kind of phosphate inhibitor, colorless sticky liquid, after placed for a long time can generate crystal, shape is colorless glass. It is also effective inhibitor of tungsten ore flotation, mainly used to inhibit calcite and fluorite.

During heating flotation process, use oleic acid as collecting agent, pyrophosphate as inhibitor. When pyrophosphate is ionized in water, cation will form into complexes with Ca2+ on the surface of mineral, and transform into soluble complexes, so as to inhibit calcite or fluorite. At the same time, sodium oleic acid molecular on the surface of mineral can be soluble in pyrophosphate, when soluble calcium complexes turns into liquid phase, then desorb collecting agent on the surface of calcium containing minerals. Compared to sodium silicate, when pH value is below 10, pyrophosphate can enlarge the movement of calcite to negative side of electricity, reduce absorb of negative ion collecting agent.
