Rare Earth Market - October 20, 2026

Rare earth market update on October 20, 2026

The price trends of mainstream light and heavy rare earth products in China showed pergence: praseodymium-neodymium prices continued their slow decline, dysprosium-terbium prices operated weakly and steadily, and erbium-holmium prices rose strongly.

Today, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium oxide and praseodymium-neodymium metal decreased by approximately RMB 2,000/ton and RMB 1,000/ton, respectively; the prices of terbium oxide and dysprosium oxide were around RMB 6.38 million/ton and RMB 1.42 million/ton, respectively; and the prices of erbium oxide and holmium oxide increased by approximately RMB 5,000/ton and RMB 10,000/ton, respectively.

The recent continuous decline in praseodymium-neodymium raw material prices has led to a slight decline in the prices of rare earth permanent magnet materials and their scrap. For example, the price of 52M NdFeB blank blocks decreased by approximately RMB 2/kg, and the price of waste NdFeB (praseodymium-neodymium) decreased by approximately RMB 8/kg.

According to Chinatungsten online, bullish factors in the market include: first, affected by factors such as high production difficulty, relatively few downstream inquiries, and the difficulty of short-term market price increases, the production capacity release of most rare earth manufacturers is limited. Coupled with a decline in overseas rare earth imports, the increase in spot market supply is further constrained. Second, the rapid development of downstream rare earth industries such as new energy, robotics, smart home appliances, and electronic information is expected to drive growth in demand for rare earth functional materials. From January to September this year, China's rare earth imports decreased by 2.4% year-on-year.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that in September 2026, among 626 products of industrial enterprises above designated size, 271 products saw year-on-year growth in output. Among them, ten non-ferrous metals were 6.93 million tons, increased by 0.1%; automobiles were 3.063 million units, decreased by 5.7%, among which new energy vehicles were 1.870 million units, increased by 16.9%; power generation was 829.4 billion kWh, decreased by 1.2%; and crude oil processing was 57.48 million tons, decreased by 8.4%.
