Rare earth market update on September 23, 2026

The domestic rare earth market as a whole showed pergence. Under the mutual influence of bullish and bearish factors, the mindsets of mainstream light and heavy rare earth suppliers differed somewhat, actual transaction volumes were relatively small, and industry participants had considerable concerns about the future market.

On the light rare earth market, the overall sentiment of holding back sales and expecting price increases was strong. Affected by strong production cost support and the difficulty of increasing spot supply of raw materials, holders tentatively raised their quotations. Today, the prices of neodymium oxide and praseodymium-neodymium metal increased by approximately RMB 3,000/ton and RMB 5,000/ton, respectively.

On the medium and heavy rare earth market, dysprosium and terbium prices moved sideways. With the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, downstream stockpiling enthusiasm weakened somewhat, but suppliers still maintained their willingness to support prices. Market transactions were mainly based on rigid demand restocking, and large-volume transactions were rare.

In terms of news, data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that in August, the added value of digital product manufacturing above designated size increased by 15.7% year-on-year, maintaining a high growth rate. From the industry perspective, the added value of electronic components and equipment manufacturing, smart device manufacturing, and computer manufacturing increased by 22.9%, 14.2%, and 11.9%, respectively. From the product perspective, the output of electronic products such as smart bracelets, semiconductor discrete devices, and electronic components increased by 86.8%, 19.8%, and 14.3%, respectively; the output of intelligent production equipment products such as industrial automatic regulation instruments and control systems and 3D printing equipment increased by 35.2% and 29.9%, respectively.
