Rare earth market update on September 18, 2026

This week, domestic rare earth prices showed a trend of stabilizing first and then falling. At the beginning of the week, affected by factors such as strong production cost support, limited increases in spot supply of raw materials, and increased downstream stockpiling willingness, suppliers' quotations generally remained stable.

Toward the weekend, affected by limited downstream demand increments, coupled with some suppliers urgently needing to alleviate tight funding pressure, their willingness to exchange price for volume increased somewhat.

According to CTIA GROUP statistics, this week, the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide decreased by approximately RMB 2,000/ton, down 0.27%; the price of praseodymium-neodymium metal decreased by approximately RMB 2,000/ton, down 0.23%; the price of terbium oxide decreased by approximately RMB 100,000/ton, down 1.49%; the prices of dysprosium oxide, 55N NdFeB blanks, and NdFeB scrap (praseodymium-neodymium) showed no significant changes for the time being.

In terms of news, data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that in August 2026, 29 of the 41 major industrial sectors maintained year-on-year growth in added value. Among them, the non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry decreased by 4.1%, the general equipment manufacturing industry increased by 9.8%, the special equipment manufacturing industry increased by 11.4%, the automobile manufacturing industry increased by 8.7%, the railway, shipbuilding, aerospace, and other transport equipment manufacturing industry increased by 13.4%, the electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing industry increased by 9.9%, the computer, communication, and other electronic equipment manufacturing industry increased by 17.2%, and the electricity and heat production and supply industry increased by 4.9%; the chemical raw material and chemical products manufacturing industry remained flat year-on-year.
