Rare earth market update on September 16, 2026
The domestic rare earth market as a whole maintained a stalemate operation. With suppliers having low willingness to reduce prices for shipments and buyers having insufficient consumption capacity, prices of most products fluctuated within a narrow range, and new orders were limited.
Today, the transaction prices of neodymium oxide, terbium oxide, and erbium oxide were running at around RMB 767,000/ton, RMB 6,730,000/ton, and RMB 675,000/ton, respectively.
From the supply side, the degree of spot market supply looseness was generally moderate, mainly attributable to: first, affected by factors such as high energy prices, frequent extreme weather, and strong environmental protection and anti-illegal-mining efforts, the production pace of some rare earth manufacturers has slowed down; second, relatively large geopolitical risks and relatively high overseas rare earth prices constrain China's imports of rare earth products; third, downstream demand increments are relatively small, and raw material suppliers are slow in destocking.
From the demand side, market demand is expected to increase: first, with the arrival of the traditional "Golden September and Silver October" consumption peak season, the rare earth market has entered a transition cycle between off-season and peak season. Coupled with the current relatively low rare earth prices, downstream enterprises' willingness to purchase at low prices has further increased; second, the acceleration of global artificial intelligence computing infrastructure construction is expected to drive growth in demand for rare earth functional materials.
