Rare Earth Market - September 15, 2026

Rare earth market update on September 15, 2026

The domestic rare earth market as a whole maintained stable operation, mainly manifested in low enthusiasm for traders to enter the market, no obvious fluctuations in product prices for the time being, and a slow pace of actual transactions.

Under this market condition, industry participants' confidence in the future market was somewhat insufficient. At present, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium oxide, gadolinium oxide, and dysprosium oxide were approximately RMB 731,000/ton, RMB 206,000/ton, and RMB 1,440,000/ton, respectively.

According to CTIA GROUP, although downstream demand has been weak over the long term, affected by factors such as frequent natural disasters, continuously rising oil and gas prices, and stricter environmental supervision, the production of some rare earth mining and smelting enterprises has been restricted. Coupled with reduced imports of overseas rare earth products, low-priced sources in the market have further tightened. Customs data shows that from January to August 2026, China's cumulative rare earth imports were 70,177.8 tons, decreased by 2.6% year-on-year; among which, in August, China's rare earth imports were 6,861.7 tons, decreased by 27.40% month-on-month.

In terms of news, on September 11, the Ministry of Natural Resources released the "China Mineral Resources Report 2026." As of the end of the "14th Five-Year Plan," China's reserves of 14 minerals including rare earths, tungsten, tin, and molybdenum ranked first in the world; reserves of 9 minerals including coal, iron, manganese, and titanium ranked among the top four in the world. In 2025, China's geological exploration investment achieved positive growth for the fifth consecutive year, and important progress continued to be made in mineral exploration. The mineral types with the highest number of newly discovered mineral occurrences nationwide were gold (16 locations), iron (11 locations), coal (9 locations), manganese (8 locations), and lithium (8 locations).
