Rare earth market update on August 25, 2026

The domestic rare earth market as a whole maintained a sideways operation. Against the background of weak downstream demand and strong upstream willingness to hold back sales and support prices, prices of most products showed no significant changes for the time being, trading activity in the market was relatively low, and spot transactions were relatively few.

Today, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium oxide, erbium oxide, and holmium oxide were approximately RMB 727,000/ton, RMB 630,000/ton, and RMB 603,000/ton, respectively.

From the perspective of bullish factors, first, frequent high-temperature and rainy weather, high energy prices, and strong efforts in environmental protection and anti-illegal-mining campaigns are multiple factors restricting the production pace of rare earth mining and smelting enterprises, resulting in limited increases in spot market supply; second, supported by production costs, suppliers have low willingness to reduce prices for shipments.

From the perspective of bearish factors, first, the complex and changing macroeconomic environment and tight working capital for downstream rare earth production enterprises are important reasons why market demand has long fallen short of expectations; second, industry participants lack confidence in short-term market recovery, and downstream users tend to be cautious in inquiries and purchases.

In terms of news: Customs data shows that in July 2026, China's rare earth imports were 9,451.3 tons, increased by 50.94% month-on-month and decreased by 1.78% year-on-year; the import value was RMB 1.23 billion, increased by 35.16% month-on-month and increased by 42.04% year-on-year. During the same period, China's rare earth exports were 4,223.5 tons, decreased by 17.26% month-on-month and decreased by 29.54% year-on-year; the export value was RMB 350 million, decreased by 20.45% month-on-month and increased by 34.62% year-on-year.
