Rare Earth Market - August 26, 2026

Rare earth market update on August 26, 2026

The domestic rare earth market as a whole showed a pattern of mixed rises and falls. Under the interplay of multiple bullish and bearish factors, the mindsets of light and heavy rare earth suppliers differed slightly, mainly manifested in declining praseodymium-neodymium prices and rising dysprosium-terbium prices.

However, supported by production costs, the downside room for praseodymium-neodymium prices is limited; affected by the lack of significant recovery in downstream demand, the increase in dysprosium-terbium prices is relatively small. Today, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium oxide and praseodymium-neodymium metal decreased by approximately RMB 1,000/ton and RMB 2,000/ton, respectively; the prices of terbium oxide and dysprosium oxide increased by approximately RMB 50,000/ton and RMB 20,000/ton, respectively.

Bullish factors include: first, with the approaching "Golden September" consumption peak season, downstream users' willingness to purchase at low prices has increased; second, affected by factors such as stricter mining control regulations and increased mining difficulty, some rare earth mining enterprises have actively reduced output; third, overseas rare earth prices are at relatively high levels, coupled with tight funds for domestic buyers, leading to a decline in China's rare earth imports. From January to July 2026, China's cumulative rare earth imports were 63,323.0 tons, decreased by 5.5% year-on-year.

Bearish factors include: first, against the background of relatively ample spot supply of raw materials, downstream enterprises mainly replenish stocks for rigid demand, with weak willingness to stockpile; second, downstream production enterprises have not yet fully consumed their previous raw material inventories, which is also one of the reasons for relatively low current market demand.
