Rare earth market update on August 21, 2026

This week, the overall domestic rare earth market maintained a weak operation, mainly manifested in low participation sentiment among both buyers and sellers, mainstream product prices fluctuating within a narrow range, and relatively few spot transactions.

This week, the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide adjusted in the range of RMB 718,000–722,000/ton, the price of praseodymium-neodymium metal fluctuated in the range of RMB 870,000–875,000/ton, and the prices of terbium oxide and dysprosium oxide remained temporarily stable at around RMB 6.63 million/ton and RMB 1.40 million/ton, respectively.

On the praseodymium-neodymium market, product prices rose first and then fell this week. At the beginning of the week, due to the significant price declines in the previous period and strong production cost support, suppliers tentatively raised their quotations; in the middle of the week and toward the weekend, slow downstream demand follow-up and suppliers' strong willingness to exchange price for volume led to the failure of the price rebound to continue. On the dysprosium-terbium market, against the background of a weak balance between supply and demand and the absence of major news releases in the industry, the overall price center of gravity showed no significant changes for the time being.

In terms of news: Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that from January to July, investment in high-tech industries increased by 5.0% year-on-year, with the growth rate accelerating by 0.4 percentage points compared with the first half of the year, driving total investment growth by 0.5 percentage points. During the same period, investment in high-tech manufacturing increased by 3.3% year-on-year, with the growth rate accelerating by 0.1 percentage points compared with the first half of the year; among which, investment in electronic circuit manufacturing increased by 57.7%, integrated circuit manufacturing increased by 11.5%, lithium-ion battery manufacturing increased by 23.0%, and electronic specialty materials manufacturing increased by 9.4%.
