Rare earth market update on July 30, 2026

The overall domestic rare earth market maintained a weak operation, with prices of most products declining to varying degrees, among which the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide decreased by approximately RMB 8,000/ton, the price of gadolinium oxide decreased by approximately RMB 2,000/ton, and the price of erbium oxide decreased by approximately RMB 10,000/ton.

This was mainly due to downstream demand falling short of expectations, relatively ample spot market supply, coupled with the lack of significant upward momentum for short-term rare earth prices, which weakened many suppliers' confidence in maintaining stable prices, leading them to choose moderate concessions to facilitate transactions and secure more orders.

However, from a long-term perspective, factors such as limited increases in overseas rare earth supply, supply-side policy constraints in China, and good development prospects for downstream rare earth industries all suggest that the future rare earth market is expected to heat up. As the "15th Five-Year Plan" approaches, the demand expectation for rare earth functional materials in high-end manufacturing, new energy, and national defense fields is strengthening, and industry sentiment is expected to steadily improve.

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, in the first half of the year, the accelerated integration of artificial intelligence with various fields and the substantial growth in computing power demand drove the electronics industry's profits to increase by 96.9% year-on-year, contributing 8.5 percentage points to the profit growth of all industrial enterprises above designated size, serving as an important support for the relatively rapid profit growth of these enterprises. Among them, in the server and high-performance workstation related fields, profits in the computer complete machine manufacturing and computer peripheral equipment manufacturing industries increased by 689.3% and 305.8%, respectively; in the electronic device manufacturing field, profits in the integrated circuit manufacturing and semiconductor discrete device manufacturing industries increased by 2,579.5% and 31.2%, respectively; in the electronic components and electronic specialty materials manufacturing field, profits in the electronic specialty materials manufacturing and electronic circuit manufacturing industries increased by 209.7% and 26.9%, respectively.
