In tungsten ore flotation inhibitor, organic inhibitor can be divided into macromolecule inhibitor and micromolecule inhibitor. In recent years, organic inhibitor has diverse structure, has good selectivity of minerals, is also environmental friendly. Characteristic of organic inhibitor is concentration, it has special effect for gangue.
Starch is used to inhibit tin ore and calcite in flotation. However, itself alone doesn’t have strong force, so it usually is not used alone. Add it into NaOH sodium silicate solution as assistant can enforce inhibiting efficiency. Because the starch molecules are large, contain more polar genes, after hydration reaction, its affinity to water is stronger than sodium silicate. Huge starch molecule will cover collecting agent on the surface of gangue mineral, thus enhance sodium silicate inhibitor and has double effects.

In recent years, scientists have done lots of experiments to test inhibiting property of starch. Tieshanlong tungsten mine use combination of starch and sodium hydroxide to separate tungsten and tin ore. It proves that mix of starch and sodium silicate can inhibit tin ore and recycle tungsten ore. It guarantees high recovery rate and concentrate quality. Some scientists also use alkali starch and sodium hydroxide as inhibitor to float tungsten scheelite, use oleic acid as collecting agent, then perfectly inhibit barite and fluorite during flotation process.
In submit, starch itself doesn’t have strong inhibiting effect. When sodium silicate can not solve the problem, starch can make the flotation process in perfect order.
