Rare earth market update on October 16, 2026

This week, the performance of the light and heavy rare earth markets perged slightly: praseodymium-neodymium prices operated steadily with a strengthening trend, dysprosium-terbium prices operated weakly, and erbium-holmium prices rose strongly.

On the light rare earth market, affected by strong production cost support and somewhat increased downstream inquiries, praseodymium-neodymium suppliers tentatively raised their quotations. On the medium and heavy rare earth market, under the contradiction between relatively ample spot supply of raw materials and downstream demand falling short of expectations, dysprosium-terbium holders increased their willingness to reduce prices for shipments; at present, industry participants are mainly focusing on the transaction status of erbium-holmium series products.

According to Chinatungsten online statistics, this week, the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide increased by approximately RMB 4,000/ton, up 0.68%; the price of terbium oxide decreased by approximately RMB 100,000/ton, down 1.54%; the price of dysprosium oxide decreased by approximately RMB 20,000/ton, down 1.38%; the price of erbium oxide increased by approximately RMB 25,000/ton, up 3.71%; the price of holmium oxide increased by approximately RMB 10,000/ton, up 1.56%; and the price of NdFeB scrap (praseodymium-neodymium) increased by approximately RMB 5/kg, up 0.66%.

In terms of news, data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that in September 2026, the national producer price index for industrial products increased by 5.0% year-on-year, and the purchasing price index for industrial producers increased by 6.9% year-on-year and 1.2% month-on-month. Among them, in the producer price index for industrial products, prices in the mining industry increased by 25.4%, the raw material industry increased by 9.4%, and the processing industry increased by 3.4%; in the purchasing price index for industrial producers, prices of non-ferrous metal materials and wires increased by 20.0%, fuel and power materials increased by 13.6%, chemical raw materials increased by 12.6%, and ferrous metal materials decreased by 0.4%.
