Rare earth market update on August 12, 2026

The overall domestic rare earth market remained weak. With low enthusiasm for traders to enter the market, market activity was relatively low, mainstream product prices showed no signs of rebound, actual transaction volumes were relatively small, and industry participants' confidence in the future market was somewhat insufficient.

However, affected by strong production cost support and good development prospects for downstream rare earth industries, suppliers' profit awareness generally increased, and the downside room for prices of most products narrowed. Today, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium oxide, terbium oxide, and dysprosium oxide were consolidating around RMB 728,000/ton, RMB 6,630,000/ton, and RMB 1,400,000/ton, respectively. With the recent volatile downward trend in praseodymium-neodymium raw material prices, quotations for rare earth permanent magnet materials and their scrap also decreased slightly. At present, the price of 55N NdFeB blank blocks decreased by approximately RMB 3/kg.

In terms of news, data from the China Passenger Car Association shows that in July, retail sales of passenger cars in the national market were 1.461 million units, decreased by 20.9% year-on-year. Among them, retail sales of new energy vehicles were 951,000 units, decreased by 3.9% year-on-year, with a penetration rate of 65.1%; retail sales of conventional fuel vehicles were 510,000 units, decreased by 41% year-on-year. In July, exports of new energy passenger vehicles were 540,000 units, increased by 147.8% year-on-year.
