Rare earth market update on July 16, 2026

The domestic rare earth market as a whole maintained stable operation. Against the background of a relatively balanced supply-demand pattern, the room for price negotiation was small, and the growth rate of spot orders was slow. 

Today, the prices of neodymium oxide, erbium oxide, and dysprosium oxide were consolidating at around RMB 815,000/ton, RMB 510,000/ton, and RMB 1,430,000/ton, respectively.

From the supply side, although downstream demand has been weak for a long time, due to factors such as high production costs, excessive extreme weather, frequent natural disasters, and stricter environmental protection and anti-smuggling policies, the output of some rare earth mining and smelting enterprises has decreased. Coupled with limited imports of overseas rare earth ores, the growth rate of spot market supply has further slowed down.

From the demand side, multiple factors including the sluggish transmission of terminal industry demand, the tight capital position of downstream rare earth production enterprises, and the difficulty of a significant price increase in the short term have jointly led to relatively low market transaction volumes. However, in the long run, with the rapid development of emerging industries, the rare earth market is still expected to recover.

In terms of news, China Northern Rare Earth (Group) High-Tech Co., Ltd. expects to achieve a net profit attributable to the parent company's owners of RMB 1.980 billion to RMB 2.060 billion for the first half of 2026, representing a significant year-on-year increase of 112.74% to 121.33%. During the reporting period, the company's output of smelting and separation products, metal products, and new rare earth materials all reached record highs for the same period in history; sales volumes of rare earth metal products and magnetic materials steadily increased, achieving full coverage of supply to leading domestic magnetic materials companies; sales of lanthanum-cerium products and polishing materials increased significantly year-on-year.
