Rare earth market update on July 6, 2026
On Monday, the overall domestic rare earth market maintained a relatively strong operation. Under the interplay of multiple bullish and bearish factors, the price trends of light and heavy rare earth products differed slightly: praseodymium-neodymium prices increased again, while dysprosium and terbium prices remained stable for now.
On the light rare earth market, the overall situation showed a pattern of having a price but no actual market transactions. Supported by production costs, some suppliers raised their offers slightly. However, due to weak inquiry and purchasing willingness from magnet material enterprises, market transactions remained relatively scarce.
On the medium and heavy rare earth market, under the condition of both weak supply and demand, market wait-and-see sentiment was strong, and product prices showed no significant fluctuations for now.
In terms of news, according to Global Times, given the domestic shortage of rare earth resources, Japan has for the first time begun extracting rare earths from waste household air conditioners. In response to this news, many Japanese netizens expressed concern that Japan's rare earth shortage is more severe than described by the Japanese government, "to the point where they have to pick through garbage." According to the report, this recycling attempt was initiated by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. The company removes compressors from recycled air conditioner outdoor units and disassembles them, extracting magnets containing rare earths. The report stated that this is the first such attempt in Japan against the backdrop of China's strengthened export controls on Japan.
