Rare earth market update on March 4, 2026

The overall domestic rare earth market remains weak, mainly reflected in the continued price adjustments of most products and relatively low actual trading volumes. Today, the price of praseodymium oxide decreased by about RMB 15,000/ton, praseodymium-neodymium oxide decreased by about RMB 20,000/ton, gadolinium oxide decreased by about RMB 2,000/ton, and dysprosium-iron alloy decreased by about RMB 10,000/ton.

In the light rare earth market, influenced by the gradual exhaustion of previous positive factors and downstream inquiries falling short of expectations, the consumption market is slowly shifting from a seller’s market to a buyer’s market. Praseodymium-neodymium prices have been rationally adjusted downward, but the current spot supply of praseodymium-neodymium remains relatively tight. In the medium and heavy rare earth market, overall prices are mainly stable, with slight decreases in inpidual products. This is mainly because previous price increases for medium and heavy rare earth products were relatively small and cost support for prices remains strong.

Regarding news, data from the National Bureau of Statistics show that in February, the manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) was 49.0%, decreased by 0.3 percentage points compared with the previous month. By enterprise scale, the PMI for large enterprises was 51.5%, increased by 1.2 percentage points compared with the previous month; for medium and small enterprises, the PMI was 47.5% and 44.8%, decreased by 1.2 and 2.6 percentage points, respectively. By sub-index, the production index was 49.6%, decreased by 1.0 percentage point from the previous month; the new orders index was 48.6%, decreased by 0.6 percentage point; and the raw materials inventory index was 47.5%, increased by 0.1 percentage point.
