Analysis of Latest Molybdenum Market from Chinatungsten Online

China’s molybdenum market as a whole maintained a weak and stable operation, mainly reflected in the phenomenon of price stabilization across many products and steady order growth. Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and sodium molybdate were approximately RMB 5,350/mtu, RMB 333,000/ton, and RMB 225,000/ton, respectively.

According to Chinatungsten online, up to now, the total volume of ferromolybdenum tenders in October has exceeded 10,000 tons. Since the beginning of October, the price of molybdenum concentrate has decreased by RMB 160/mtu, down approximately 2.91%; the price of ferromolybdenum has decreased by RMB 11,000/ton, down approximately 3.20%; the price of ammonium heptamolybdate has decreased by RMB 8,000/ton, down approximately 2.40%; the price of molybdenum powder has decreased by RMB 20/kg, down approximately 3.25%; and the price of molybdenum oxide has decreased by RMB 160/mtu, down approximately 2.86%.

Although downstream demand was acceptable in October, molybdenum prices continued to weaken, mainly for two reasons: first, during and after the National Day holiday, the international molybdenum market continued to cool down, and industry participants' confidence in the domestic molybdenum market declined. Since the beginning of October, the international molybdenum oxide price has dropped from approximately USD 33.43/lb Mo to approximately USD 33.03/lb Mo; the European ferromolybdenum price has dropped from approximately USD 77.3/kg Mo to approximately USD 76.3/kg Mo. Second, after the National Day holiday, downstream inquiries failed to return to normal in time, coupled with obvious downward pressure on ferromolybdenum procurement prices from steel enterprises, suppliers' panic sentiment increased, and their willingness to reduce prices for shipments strengthened.

In terms of news, according to monitoring by the China Iron and Steel Association, in September, the average value of the China Steel Price Index (CSPI) was 92.48 points, increased by 1.52% month-on-month and decreased by 0.74% year-on-year. Among them, the average value of the CSPI long product index was 94.03 points, increased by 2.67% month-on-month and increased by 0.33% year-on-year. The average value of the plate index was 90.94 points, increased by 0.87% month-on-month and decreased by 1.49% year-on-year. As of the end of September 2026, the CSPI was 92.16 points, increased by 0.07% month-on-month, increased by 0.32% from the end of the previous year, and decreased by 1.57% year-on-year.
