Ammonium Paratungstate (APT) Prices Remain Stable – August 17, 2026

Analysis of Latest Tungsten Market from Chinatungsten Online

On Monday, the tungsten market remained generally stable, characterized by a standoff between supply and demand, sluggish spot trading, and prices fluctuating within a narrow range. Market participants are adopting a wait-and-see approach, with short-term focus shifting to the long-term contract procurement prices set by tungsten enterprises for the second half of the month.

The tungsten concentrate market has shown relative resilience. On the supply side, the release of resources remains generally controlled; prices are supported by holders' strong reluctance to lower quotes, alongside disruptions from factors such as high temperatures and heavy rainfall in the south, as well as wind and flood control measures in certain regions. Smelters faced significant pressure; squeezed by high costs and weak downstream demand, some opted to cut production or suspend operations temporarily, leaving the market in a dilemma regarding price direction. Powder metallurgy enterprises maintained a cautious procurement stance, purchasing primarily to meet immediate needs; overall trading activity was lukewarm, further fueling the wait-and-see sentiment. The tungsten market is currently awaiting signals of a substantial recovery in downstream end-user demand or other directional news; price fluctuations remain limited, with stability prevailing for the time being.

In terms of news, the Ministry of Natural Resources has issued the total control quotas for tungsten mining for 2026 (second batch), though these were not publicly announced online. Its first-batch quota for 2026 was 100 tons.
