Analysis of Latest Tungsten Market from Chinatungsten Online
On Monday, tungsten prices remained stable amidst a standoff between bullish and bearish forces, with limited market trading activity. On the supply side, sellers generally maintained a reluctance to sell at low prices, while the circulation of higher-priced material remained sluggish. On the demand side, a wait-and-see attitude prevailed, purchasing was largely confined to meeting immediate needs, resulting in limited growth in transaction volumes.
Last Friday, a mining company in Guangdong sold 54 standard tons of scheelite concentrate (24.17% WO3) via public auction at a price of RMB 393,000/standard ton. According to data from China Tungsten Online, the price for 55% tungsten concentrate held steady at RMB 410,000/standard ton, while the price of ammonium paratungstate (APT) remained stagnant at around RMB 610,000/ton. Quotes for tungsten powder and tungsten carbide powder stood at RMB 970/kg and RMB 920/kg, respectively, and the price of 70% ferrotungsten consolidated at approximately RMB 660,000/ton.
Prices for tungsten scrap saw a tentative rise, though a disconnect between buyers and sellers persisted. Driven by high holding costs, last week's long-term raw material pricing, and policy-related news, holders showed a stronger inclination to support the market, pushing quotes slightly higher. As of this writing, the price for tungsten scrap rods was approximately RMB 770/kg, and domestic inserts were priced at around RMB 628/kg. However, buyers remained noticeably hesitant, with reduced enthusiasm for taking delivery, thereby hindering any significant increase in overall market transaction volume. Industry insiders noted that the narrowing price gap between recycled and virgin tungsten carbide powder has, to some extent, dampened the willingness of downstream cemented carbide manufacturers to purchase scrap material.
The international tungsten market is undergoing a correction under pressure, yet the price spread compared to the domestic market remains significant. European APT prices ranged from USD 2,900-3,275/mtu (equivalent to RMB 1.732–1.955 million/ton), down 1.67% from its peak but up 235.6% since the beginning of the year. European ferrotungsten prices ranged from USD 170-190/kg W (equivalent to 803,000-897,000/ton), down 4.6% from its peak but up 30.9% since the start of the year.
