Expression and Influencing Factors of Carbide Compacts Strength

1. Notation of Carbide compacts  flexure strength (ASTM B783,GB5160-85,GB5319-85)ASTM(American Society Testing and Materials):31.75*12.76.35mm
GB:30*12*6mm

test of pressed shape strength image

Under the control conditions, a uniform lateral force is added to the powder compacts of a rectangular cross section, until the blank is broken, and the strength values of the compact are calculated. The formula is as follows:
S=3PL/2t2W
W- pressed blank broadband, mm
T- pressed blank thickness, mm
L- pivot distance, mm
P- load, N

2. Running drum test(JSPM4-69)
Use running drum test of metal net to measure weight reduction rate

Factors affecting the strength of pressed shape
1. Powder properties: hardness, roughness, specific surface area, particle shape, impurities, etc.
2. pressing pressure, in general, the greater the pressing pressure is, the higher the strength of the pressed shape will be.
3. forming agent: take the mixture forming agent of hard alloy as an example, the pressed shape strength of rubber is higher than paraffin.
4. Pressing temperature and holding time

Ways to increase the strength of pressed shape:
1. improve irregularity of particle - improve mechanical interlocking
2. increase the specific surface area of powder - to improve degree of irregularity of particle and appropriately choose fine grain powder
3. reduce surface oxides and impurities
4. increasing the density of pressed shape
5. improve the dosage and quality of forming agent
6. increase the pressing temperature and prolong the holding time.
