In tungsten ore flotation, organic inhibitor can be divided into macromolecule organic inhibitor and micromolecule organic inhibitor. For years, organic inhibitor has good selectivity due to its diverse structure and is environmental friendly. Organic inhibitor has special effect for gangue. So it is used to replace sodium silicate sometimes.
Carboxymethyl cellulose is also called CMC, it is the carboxymethylation of cellulose. CMC is cation type cellulose ethers, appearance is white or light yellow flocculated fibrous powder, stinkless, tasteless and non-toxic, can be easily soluble in cold water or hot water, form into transparent solution with sticky property.

Carboxymethyl cellulose solution has function of thickening, film forming, bonding, moisture retention, colloidal protection, emulsification and suspension, is widely used in petroleum, food, medicine, textile and papermaking. CMC was used since 1965 in China in tungsten ore flotation inhibiting. If the degree of etherification is above 0.45, it can be used to satisfaction flotation inhibitor.
Carboxymethyl cellulose has been used in flotation industry for years. It is used as inhibitor for pyroxene, amphibole, serpentine, chlorite, carbonaceous shale and other calcium or magnesium mineral. It is proved that, carboxylate anions of carboxymethyl cellulose can be attracted by cations on the surface of mineral lattice, hydroxyl of carboxymethyl cellulose will form into water membrane by hydrogen bond and thus perform function of inhibiting.
