Rare earth market update on August 14, 2026

This week, domestic rare earth prices showed a volatile downward trend. Against the background of long-term weak buying interest from downstream and the inability to foresee a significant upturn in the short term, most suppliers lacked confidence in maintaining stable prices.

In order to ease financial pressure, their willingness to exchange price for orders further increased. However, to avoid the risk of cost-revenue inversion, coupled with the expectation of increased future demand for rare earth permanent magnet materials, suppliers' room for concessions narrowed toward the end of the week.

According to CTIA GROUP statistics, this week, the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide decreased by approximately RMB 20,000/ton, down 2.72%; the price of praseodymium-neodymium metal decreased by approximately RMB 22,000/ton, down 2.46%; the price of terbium oxide decreased by approximately RMB 70,000/ton, down 1.04%; the price of dysprosium oxide showed no significant fluctuations for the time being; the price of 55N NdFeB blanks decreased by approximately RMB 4/kg, down 1.41%; and the price of NdFeB scrap (praseodymium-neodymium) decreased by approximately RMB 20/kg, down 2.65%. It can be seen that this week, affected by the decline in praseodymium-neodymium raw material prices, the prices of NdFeB blanks and their scrap also declined.

In terms of news, data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers shows that in July 2026, China's automobile production and sales completed 2.573 million units and 2.584 million units, respectively, decreased by 6.8% and 8% month-on-month, and decreased by 0.7% and 0.3% year-on-year. Among them, new energy vehicle production and sales completed 1.576 million units and 1.561 million units, respectively, increased by 26.8% and 23.7% year-on-year. The monthly new car sales share of new energy vehicles exceeded 60% for the first time, and the cumulative share exceeded 50% for the first time.
