Rare earth market update on February 27, 2026
The domestic rare earth market overall maintained a favorable trend. With increasingly positive factors, the seller's market held a significant advantage, mainly reflected in sharp price jumps for most products and some expansion in transaction volume.
Today, praseodymium-neodymium metal, terbium oxide, and holmium oxide prices increased by approximately RMB 20,000/ton, RMB 50,000/ton, and RMB 5,000/ton respectively.
According to CTIA GROUP LTD, the current positive factors in the market mainly include: first, some raw material spot supply remains relatively tight, resulting in low willingness among most suppliers to reduce prices for shipments; second, affected by the end of the Spring Festival holiday and industry players' good expectations for the future market, downstream users' enthusiasm for inquiries and procurement has increased, further supporting prices; third, the rapid development of industries such as new energy vehicles, robotics, and low-altitude economy is expected to drive increased demand for rare earth functional materials. However, it should be noted that as prices continue to climb, buyers' fear-of-high-prices sentiment is gradually intensifying, so traders should operate with caution.
On the news front: Data from the United States Geological Survey show that in 2025, global rare earth production was approximately 390,000 tons, increased by 10,000 tons compared to 380,000 tons in 2024, up 2.63%. Among them, China's rare earth production was approximately 270,000 tons, unchanged year-on-year, accounting for 69.23% of global total production; U.S. rare earth production was approximately 51,000 tons, increased by 12.09% year-on-year; Australia's rare earth production was approximately 29,000 tons, unchanged year-on-year.
